The Causes

Age With Dignity

Age WIth Dignity was founded in 2003 to support the pensioners in the Kwekwe and Redcliff area. The ongoing economic difficulties in Zimbabwe has unfortunately affected the elderly more than anyone else. Pensions, medical aid and savings had been decimated by the situation and left families scattered.

Age WIth Dignity seeks to raise funds for a wide range of issues such as medical expenses, transportation and in some cases simply food. The charity helps hundreds of elderly people in the area.  Every year since the Establishment of this Foundation we endevour to arrange quarterly outings so that the pensioners can enjoy different and pleasant surroundings. Dedicated people and generous donations make this possible.

Over the last few years AWD has helped to pay for eye surgery, hip and knee replacements and many other vital medical treatments. Please visit AWD for more information.

Lynbrook Homes

Lynbrook Homes in Kwekwe is a retirement community with 16 cottages. The home was founded in the 1960s and provides a safe environment for the elderly. It is self maintained and looked after well but there are no extra funds for future projects.  One major project we would like to invest in would be a small medical centre which would be very beneficial to our residents. We have a lovely vegetable garden where our residents get given fresh vegetables on a regular basis and we also have monthly donations from local farmers of fresh fruit, milk and chickens.

Lynbrook has evolved of late and now provides Hospice care when needed. There are currently 2 residents who require full-time carers which is provided.

SPCA Kwekwe and Redcliff

The SPCA was first established in the country in 1911. It operates throughout Zimbabwe and the Kwekwe and Redcliff SPCA has helped to save the lives of countless animals.

Our SPCA is run by a small but highly dedicated team that ensure all animals in the area are safe from harm.  We would like to raise funds for veterinary supplies which are very difficult to source and when we do get them the prices are extortionate.  Spaying and neutering is also one very important aspect of what needs to be done regularly especially in the high density and rural areas but the cost of this has become prohibitive.  Access to these areas is very limited as the vehicle we have is not very reliable.  Any funds we can raise for this very worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.

Visit their Facebook page to see the good work they do with their limited funding.

Kwekwe Sports Club

The Kwekwe Sports Club has been an integral part of the Kwekwe community since 1952. The club has played host to a number of international sports teams including the Australian, Sri Lankan and West Indies cricket teams. The club also famously hosted the United States baseball team.

With such a remarkable history, it is disappointing to see the club today.  Whilst the membership and stewards do what they can to maintain it, there are some major renovations required one of which is an area for pensioners, children and the whole community to come together.

A major construction plan is in the works to build a thatch gazebo. The idea is to have a safe and central location for everyone to congregate.  Our place for our pensioners to enjoy their monthly luncheons and to unwind, many of them in their 80's and sadly still working. The plan has stalled of late as finances have fallen through due to the economic situation in our Country.

The Kwekwe Sports Club is more than a member's club, it provides support and continues to strengthen the community but it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep up the good standards required.
