The Trek

Our adventurers depart from Kwekwe on the 10th of April. They will drive to Harare to catch a flight to Dubai then fly onto Kathmandu. From there they will catch another flight to Lukla. As soon as they land the fun begins.

Having rented some hiking gear they start the hike. Mountaineers say that the Base Camp trek is not arduous but it is long and the conditions will be unlike anything that can be found in Zimbabwe.

Our travelers have been training for the last 8 months but the one thing they cannot prepare for is the altitude at which they'll be hiking. They may have done dozens of hikes already but the highest point they've reached when they scaled Inyangani, ZImbabwe's highest peak, was 8,500 feet. The start of the hike from Lukla is already more than that.

Happily, there is WiFi on Everest! That means they'll be able to send photos, videos and updates from the adventures. These will be upload to our social media sites as soon as we receive them so that you can follow their escapades.

The Travelers

Ken Connelly

The leader of the group because he came up with the idea. And because he is the oldest. And because he said so.

Joe Ferreira

The engineer. Should a rope break or a pole snap, Joe will duct tape it back into use and no one will be any the wiser.

Beda Connelly

Beda is the only sensible one. Her job is to find pitfalls and snags, both before and during the trek. She easily has the toughest job.

Shingi Ferreira

Shingi is the medic. If there's a booboo or an ouchie she'll tend to it with good grace, humour and a touch of ridicule.
